Selangor Bird Race 2023

This year, the Wings of KKB 2023 Selangor Bird Race will take place from 29-30 July at Jalan Bukit Kerajaan Recreation Park, Kuala Kubu Bharu, which is opposite the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council office.

This is an exceptionally curated event, especially for education purposes and attracts a lot of school participation. There are some open categories for walk-in participants. But the Wings of KKB birding event has seen more school engagement over the years.

Wings of KKB 2023 Selangor Bird Race

As the Selangor Bird Race takes place at Kuala Kubu Bharu or KKB, many categories are available for various levels of schools and universities. And there are two open categories for non-students.

This year, a massive pool of RM15,000 will be allocated as prizes for all categories, which is fantastic news. However, we feel money should not be used to lure participants as passion should be the main interest.

At the time of writing this article, no official sponsors were mentioned. Still, the KKB Town Council and Selangor Recreational and Tourism Club are the prominent people behind this birding event.

Last year, the Wings of KKB 2022 was held in December, but the organisers have brought it back to mid-year this year. In 2019, the event was held in April. I gather there is no fixed date for this event.

In total, there are ten categories of events taking place during the birding event. Three of them are open categories that anyone can join and are highlighted in bold.

  1. Bird Race (Open Category – For anyone to join)
  2. Bird Race (University Category)
  3. Bird Race (Secondary School Category)
  4. Bird Race (Primary School Category)
  5. Bird Race (Special Student Category – limit to 8 teams only)
