Wings of KKB 2022

Birders and bird photographers can participate in the Wings of KKB 2022, held at Kuala Kubu Bharu in Selangor, Malaysia, from 1-18 December. This will be the last birding event of the year, as the most recent birdwatching events in Malaysia took place from April to October.

The Wings of KKB program was first introduced in 2012 to promote birdwatching activities around the Kuala Kubu Bharu area. It is also the making gateway to Fraser’s Hill, a world-renowned birdwatching destination in Malaysia.

In addition to promoting Kuala Kubu Bharu City as a Park Heritage City, the Wings of KKB 2022 event also highlights three main events: A Bird Race, Bird Painting, Bird Photography, and many more.

As the event enters its 10th year, the organizers invite all birders to participate in this program, also known as the Selangor International Birds Fair. However, due to a lack of communication, a lot of work must be done for the following year.

Conclusion to Wings of KKB 2022

The event looks pretty low-profile because the organizers did not reach out to media like Birdwatching Asia. Every year, I make it a point to try and meet the industry players, but no one seems interested in bringing birding events to the next level.

I hope that in 2023, things start to change or a younger and open-minded team takes over the birding events around Malaysia and can communicate with birding-related media and professionals in this field. Otherwise, it will always be the same with just KPI targets.
