The Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race 2023 will take place from 17-18 June at the town centre of the Bukit Fraser in Pahang. This is also the oldest bird race in Malaysia, now in its 35th year.

If you are new to birdwatching or bird photography, the bird race and photo race is something you may want to participate in, as it has attracted many participants from all over Malaysia, including birders from Sabah and Sarawak.
Not only that, even birders and photographers from Singapore and other Southeast Asian countries will attend this birding event which takes place yearly at Fraser’s Hill. While many consider this birdwatching tourism, the correct term would be avitourism.
Avitourism, short for Avian Tourism, is a niche nature-based tourism market that has grown significantly over the years, mainly thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic that brought the world to a standstill in 2020.
Since the worldwide lockdowns, many people south to find something to pass their time, and birdwatching was one of them. It started as birdwatching and eventually evolved for many into avitourism in Malaysia, namely by visiting other states around the country for birding.
And visiting Fraser’s Hill for this birdwatching event hugely contributes to avitourism here because birders and photographers spend money here. So, this is what Avitourism means for those who do not know.
The Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race 2023 is the premier birding event for Peninsular Malaysia and is one that any birder or photographer should not miss.
