Once again, the Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race 2023 is taking place this 17-18 June and will be the 34th edition of Malaysia’s largest birding event. It will also be held at Fraser’s Hill in Pahang, about two hours from Kuala Lumpur.
This is one of the main events that birders from all over the region will attend, and it is also the oldest bird race and event in Malaysia, held at the former hill resort of Pahang. Fraser’s Hill is also at an elevation of 1,456 metres above sea level.
Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race 2023
The main event will always be the bird race, attracting participants from Malaysia and Southeast Asia. This is a team event where three team members will go on a 24-hour bird race around the central vicinity of Fraser’s Hill.
There is also the Fraser’s Hill bird photography contest that also attracts photographers from all over the country. Other activities include bird talks from visitors to Malaysia and academic talks from birding professionals.
Many people choose to attend this event because Bukit Fraser is at an elevation of 1,456 metres above sea level, making it a very cool place. Therefore, birders can walk around easily without breaking a sweat under the scorching sun.

Things to Consider
Because of the success of this bird race in Malaysia, visitors have received a lot of feedback, namely the traffic system where the main town centre of Fraser’s is sometimes congested or blocked due to inconsiderate parking by the roads.
This has been a growing issue over the last few years, and hopefully, the Pahang authorities will rectify it before it gets out of hand. Many have suggested turning the road system into a one-way for the event, namely outside Puncak Inn and the clock tower roundabout. This will ease the congestion in the town centre.
How to go to Fraser’s Hill?
It’s relatively simple if you drive; just key in Fraser’s Hill in Waze or Google Maps and let it lead you there. Otherwise, you can always check the map provided here and use that to guide you there.
Those without a car can rent one, which is probably the best way to get here and back to the city. If you come with a group, this would be the best option. And if you are solo, you may want to contact the organiser to see if a shuttle service is available.
Otherwise, you can charter a taxi from KL one way here. But this can be a a bit costly if you are on a budget. There is still no bus service to Fraser’s Hill; therefore, taking public transport is out of the question.
Conclusion
While we await more information about the Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race 2023, you can now block off your dates for the 17 & 18 of June as the organiser confirmed it in early February of 2023.
