The beautiful Red-bearded Bee-eater in Malaysia is one of the list birds that many birders would like to see as it is known to be one of the most beautiful birds in its category.
Bee-eaters are usually small, but the Red-bearded Bee-eater is fairly larger than the other bee-eaters, namely the blue-throated and blue-tailed species.
Red-bearded Bee-eater in Malaysia
Recently on a trip to FRIM, I managed to photograph a Red-bearded Bee-eater, which was taken very near the canteen area of FRIM in Selangor, Malaysia. FRIM is the Forest Research Institute Malaysia and is home to some spectacular birds in the Klang Valley.
However, FRIM is no longer open to the public since the Covid19 pandemic, and now visitors are required to engage their guides for nature walks, hiking, trekking or even birdwatching. Please note the minimum charge is RM150 for 3 hours.
Anyway, I visited FRIM on the 7th of October, 2022, under a special invitation for the Bird Migratory Day program, where 10 of us went around to see if we could spot migratory birds.
As the weather was not too optimum, we decided to explore the Paya Burung area to the FRIM canteen area. This is when we saw the Red Bearded Bee Eater perched on a tree about 10 meters high.

While I took photographs, I also took the opportunity to take a video of this beautiful bird, and you can view the bird video below. It is also posted on my Malaysia Birdwatching YouTube Channel, and if you are into birds or birdwatching, please subscribe to my channel.
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed the photos of the Red-bearded Bee-eater in Malaysia as it is one of the birds that seem to perch longer than many other birds, making it fun for bird photography.
The bee-eater can be spotted in most forest areas around Malaysia, from lowland to mid-lowland and sub-montane forests. I have seen the Red-bearded Bee-eater at Fraser’s Hill and Bukit Tinggi.
