The Wings of KKB birding event will be re-branded as the Selangor International Bird Race 2018 and is the 7th year that this birdwatching event is taking place in Kuala Selangor, Kuala Kubu Baharu and Genting Highlands.
The Selangor International Bird Race, hosted by the Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) and Tourism Selangor, will take place from 20 to 22 April 2018. This is the state of Selangor’s premier birding event, supported by Tourism Selangor and Tourism Malaysia, as well as various other NGOs and sponsors.
Selangor International Bird Race 2018
This birding event attracts bird watchers, bird photographers, and the general public, as much awareness has been gained over the years. You will also see many schoolchildren and university students participating.
The campaign to generate awareness among younger schoolchildren has been a massive success over the years, and the participation of various schools has grown tremendously. The organizers and committee of the event, including sponsors and NGOs, have taken the initiative. During the event, sponsors and vendors of birding equipment will also have promotional booths.
Kuala Kubu Bharu and Frasers Hill (Important Bird Area) have several sought-after birds for many bird watchers. Even foreigners come here to spot some of these birds and check off their list.
At both places, you can find birds such as the Marbled Wren Babbler, Silver-Breasted Broadbills, Pygmy Wren Babbler, Large Niltava, Rhinoceros, and Great and Bushy Crested Hornbills.
The Selangor bird race will begin in Kuala Kubu Bharu town and head towards Bukit Fraser, passing through the Selangor Heritage Park. The event ends with a special gala dinner at Fraser’s Hill.

During the last Wings of KKB 2017, 800 participants participated in all three categories. There were local and international participants, and most were from neighbouring Southeast Asia.
Other international participants came from Egypt, Sudan, Australia, the Philippines, Ethiopia and The Netherlands. Each country sent a representative team from one of the bird clubs.

Conclusion
This year, the rebranding from Wings of KKB or Kuala Kubu Baharu will take on an international level, with the Selangor International Bird Race or SIBR being the new name.
This will increase awareness and invite more bird watchers and photographers from neighbouring countries to participate here in Selangor while promoting local tourism.
