Here is some excellent news about the participation of the Sabah Tourism Board at Global BirdFair 2022, where a whole new organisation is taking over the event after Covid 19.
This event was formerly known as the British Birdwatching Fair, and the last time the event took place was in 2019. This birdfair has also been described as “the birder’s Glastonbury”.
At the current Global BirdFair, visitors will find vendors and suppliers for binoculars, cameras, books, clothing and other birdwatching equipment. There will also be artists selling their creations while numerous tour companies will be there to promote birding packages.
Sabah Tourism Board at Global BirdFair 2022
This massive birding event is held in the county of Rutland in the UK, bringing together wildlife conservationists, representatives of nature travel, birders and natural history enthusiasts from all over the world.
Over the years, the Sabah Tourism Board has been an active participant at the BirdFair when it was previously known as the British Birdwatching Fair or Rutland BirdFair. They have been cleverly promoting the east Malaysian state in North Borneo as one of the birding destinations in Southeast Asia.
On one occasion, Tourism Malaysia has also taken interest by sending staff down to experience the BirdFair, but that stopped several years back, just before the Covid 19 pandemic.
Now, only the state of Sabah is participating in the inaugural new Global BirdFair 2022, and they even have a slot to showcase birding in Sabah with Gary Albert, the president of the Borneo Bird Club giving a talk about this.
Visitors to the fair can find the Sabah Tourism Board Booth at Stand N43, Nightingale Marquee at the event.
When is the Sabah Tourism Talk About Birding in Sabah?
This scheduled talk will take place on Friday at 10.00 AM (UK Time) at the Plover Theater on 15 July. The birding talk will be conducted by Gary Albert, president of the Borneo Bird Club, and the topic will be – Birding in Sabah Malaysian Borneo.
Gary Albert will share information on endemic hotspots, top-class facilities, national parks, and forest reserves and highlight Sabah’s birdwatching guides. This is the talk you should attend for anyone interested in birding in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.
I would love to one day visit the Global BirdFair and also give a talk about birding in Sabah and Malaysia, sharing my point of view as a birding writer and photographer.

Conclusion
This is the first new Global BirdFair that takes over from the former British Birdwatching Fair, where the former organisers made the tough decision not to continue to stage the world-famous birding event post-Covid.
Anyhow, I am happy to hear that the event has been taken over, and I am also ecstatic to hear about Sabah Tourism Board participating at Global BirdFair 2022.
