It is time again for the Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race 2024, and as always, Malaysia’s oldest birding event will be held from 7-9 June at Bukit Fraser in Pahang. This year will also be the 35th year that the bird race is taking place here at Fraser’s Hill, and expect quite a large turnout of participants and visitors to this former British hill station.

Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race 2024

This is Malaysia’s oldest bird race that has been around for 35 years and attracts all kinds of birders from all over Malaysia and Southeast Asia. International participants are coming from as far as the United States and Europe.

The race takes place on a weekend, and birders and photographers usually start going up to Frasers several days before the event. On the event weekend, hundreds of people will be seen everywhere, often causing a mild traffic jam.

Hopefully, the organisers will rectify this matter as it can be quite tricky navigating around the hill station here. Previously, the council arranged a one-way traffic system around Fraser’s Hill, which seems to be working.

General visitors usually visit the event on Saturday or Sunday; most will do a day trip. If you would like to experience this bird race and festival, I recommend you make your hotel booking now because the hotels will be fully booked by April.

As always, the main bird race is the star attraction of the event, but there are also several other contests going on during the event. They are;

As for activities during the bird race, there will be the usual bazaar showcasing camera and optic equipment by several brands. You can also find NGOs, forestry departments and other related companies there.
