Asian Bird Fair 2019 Sarawak

Great news for Malaysians as the Asian Bird Fair 2019 will be held in Kuching, Sarawak, and this will be the talk of the bird watching society from all over Malaysia.

This is also the second time that the Asian Bird Fair is being held in Malaysia; the first was held in Langkawi Island back in 2015, and for birders and birdwatchers, this is huge news.

As this event will be the 10th Asian Bird Fair, it is organised by the Wild Bird Club of Malaysia, the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) and the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB), in partnership with Ecotourism & Conservation Society Malaysia (ECONOMY).

This is the only information available, but soon, there will be additional information on the organisers, participants, etc.

The Asian Bird Fair 2019 will also be the second time the event is taking place in Malaysia, where the first one was the 5th Asian Bird Fair on Langkawi Island, held in August 2015. Sarawak is probably selected because Borneo’s island is one of the sought-after birdwatching destinations, which has gained popularity in the last few years.

This bird fair will also help open up opportunities, network with like-minded people, and create additional awareness and interest in this hobby and sport. This also means that if your company is a birding tour company or supplying any birding equipment, this is the one fair you should attend.

Where Was The Last Asian Bird Fair Held?

In 2018, the Asian Bird Fair was held in Chiayi, Taiwan, and saw an attendance of over 180 delegates from 29 countries around the world.

Even more surprising was that 30 birding service providers also participated in the trade show to promote various avian-related products, tours and other similarities in the hobby.

When Is The Asian Bird Fair 2019

Who is the Asian Bird Fair?

The Asian Bird Fair (ABF) is an annual event created to highlight the different bird fairs in Asia and promote the protection of birds and their habitats, encouraging birdwatching and other ecotourism activities.

Initiated by three passionate birdwatchers, Michael Lu (Philippines), Victor Yu (Taiwan) and Andrew Sebastian (Malaysia), they are the executive committee and founders of the Asian Bird Fair or ABF Network.

Their idea was supported and endorsed by six founding organisations, namely;

  • Bird Conservation Society of Thailand
  • Malaysian Nature Society (MNS)
  • Nature Society (Singapore)
  • Wild Bird Club of the Philippines
  • Wild Bird Society of Taipei
  • Chinese Wild Bird Federation

ABF was also formalised at Malaysia’s Raptor Watch in 2010, with signatories committing to jointly promoting each other’s bird events and granting special considerations and allocation to member organisations.

Conclusion

For all bird watchers, photographers and enthusiasts in Malaysia and around the region, the Asian Bird Fair is a highly recommended event to visit or even participate in.

Borneo is home to over 650 birds, and a massive portion of these birds can be spotted all over Sarawak, which is still a new player in this hobby. Bird Watching Asia has actively been promoting the many places in Sarawak as birding destinations since 2019.

And I am having the Asian Bird Fair 2019 Kuching Sarawak will hopefully open up the local and regional birding society to new destinations for bird watching all over Sarawak.
