In a fascinating statistics report, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has put an estimated 45 million Americans that are birders from coast to coast. With such a vast number of birders, the hobby unites people from all walks of life to explore nature.

This has also contributed to birdwatching events throughout the United States and created more positive outcomes. This year also marks the 25th year of the San Diego Bird Festival, as the 2020 event was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, the SDBF conducted an online festival, and by 2022, it slowly moved back to the original format of having it on the ground.

One unique thing about the San Diego Bird Festival is that the organisers provide many birding field trips, workshops, pelagic ocean tours, and various optics brands on display. One of the highlights is no other than the all-day Pelagic Ocean adventure off the coast of Ventura.

And for those who want to buy items like books and souvenirs, the San Diego Bird Festival also has a unique bird bookstore with every sort of bird-related resource one could ever need. At every event, there will undoubtedly be some unique collectables that one may come across, so keep your eyes open for those items.

And for birdwatchers, one of the key activities to look out for is the ‘Birding the Border’ trips, where a coach takes you to the border to spot birds that can be seen in both California and Mexico. These are also paid trips with lunch included.
