The Brunei Bird Race Series 2019 Tasek Merimbun Race 2, the second series, took place from the 3rd to the 4th of August 2019.
The Tourism Development Department did this initiative, Ministry of Primary Resources, and support from relevant government agencies, non-government organisations and private sectors.
For this second bird race in 2019, there was a total of 15 participants that took part with locals and also international birders.

The Brunei Bird Race Series 2019 is open for all fit individuals aged 12 years and above, birdwatchers, photographers and nature lovers who would like to try bird watching photography here in Brunei Darussalam.
The Tasek Merimbun Edition of the BBRS 2019 is different from the first series of the Brunei Bird Race 2019, which only lasted for 4 hours.
The Tasek Merimbun edition was held over 2 days period and offers participants the experience of ‘night birdwatching’ at the Tasek Merimbun Heritage Park hiking trails.
Among the other check points or areas included in the bird race are Bukit Udal, Kiudang, Tanjung Maya and the Tutong River.

Where is Tasek Merimbun?
Tasik Merimbun is the largest natural lake in Brunei; The lake is located near Mukim Rambai in the Tutong District, which is about 70 km from Bandar Seri Begawan’s capital.
The lake is 27 km away from Tuton town, and one prominent feature is that the lake is S-shaped; the 7800-hectare Tasek Merimbun Heritage Park surrounds the Park.

When is the Brunei Bird Race Series 2019 – Tasek Merimbun?
The flag-off event was held at Tasek Merimbun Heritage Park on Saturday, 3rd August 2019; 2:00 pm by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Ali Bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism; as the invited guest of honor to the event.
The bird race finished around 10:30 am the next day, Sunday, 4th August 2019, with the final submission of bird species photographs by participants at the closing registration table at The Lanes Hotel, Pekan Tutong in Brunei.
Wonderful prizes related to the birdwatching activity went to the bird watcher with the most number of bird species spotted and photographed within the competition area and time given.

The Brunei Bird Race Series 2019 Tasek Merimbun Race 2 was held at Tasek Merimbun and was a success. Now eager bird watchers are patiently awaiting the third race which will take place in Labi, Belait in early October 2019.
