How to participate in October Big Day 2023?

  1. Get an eBird account: eBird is a worldwide bird checklist program used by millions of birders. It’s what allows eBird to compile everyone’s contributions into a single massive October Big Day list—while at the same time gathering data to help scientists better understand birds. Sign up for an eBird account. It’s 100% free from start to finish.
  2. Watch Birds on 14 Oct: It’s that simple. You don’t need to be a bird expert or go out all day; even 10 minutes of birding from home counts. October Big Day runs from midnight to midnight in your local time zone. You can report what you find from anywhere in the world.
  3. Enter what you see and hear in eBird: You can enter your observations via the eBird website or download the free eBird App to make submitting lists even more accessible. Please enter your checklists no later than 17 Oct to be included in the results announcement.
  4. Watch the results roll in: During the day, follow along with real-time bird reports from more than 180 countries on the official October Big Day page.

Again, if you have been hearing or seeing news about October Big Day 2023 and are curious, head to the official website as above. This is also the opportunity to get involved in eBird, as it is a fantastic platform and application.

Since my early birding days in 2007, I never imagined that a simple platform could make birding so much easier, and since 2018, I created an eBird account and never looked back as it has made m birding so much easier. You can also check out my eBird profile. As always, happy birding where ever you are.
