Brunei Bird Race Series 3 Labi Edition

Great news for bird watchers as the Brunei Bird Race Series 2019 – Race 3 Labi Edition has been announced by the Tourism Development Department of Brunei and the Ministry of Primary Resources.

This bird race is also part of a four series event spread out at four different locations around Brunei and aimed to promote bird watching in the kingdom.

Brunei Bird Race 2019 – Race 3 Labi Edition

For anyone interested, the online registration for the 3rd race of the Brunei Bird Race Series (BBRS) Labi Edition is also now open via the website – www.brunei.events. The actual race event is scheduled for the 5th to the 6th October 2019, and the bird race will also be held along the vicinity of the Mukim Labi road in the Belait District in Brunei.

Online registration starts from Saturday, 14 September 2019, until Saturday, 28 September 2019, with and adjusted (previous BND 30.00) individual participation fee of BND 32.00 per person only, due to the logistics.

The race is open for all fit individuals aged 12 years and above, birdwatchers, bird photographers and nature lovers who would like to try bird watching photography.

This can be done as a new hobby and take photographs of the many bird species found in Brunei Darussalam. Participants joining this race will each get an official BBRS 2019 Labi Edition jersey, a goodie bag and a certificate of participation.

Where are the Locations for the 3rd Edition of the Brunei Bird Race 2019?

Similar to the recent Tasek Merimbun Bird Race, which was held over two days period, the 3rd Edition of the Brunei Bird Race offers fascinating birds to be found at key checkpoints in Mukim Labi, such as;

  • Bukit Teraja Waterfall
  • Wasai Wong Kadir Recreational Park
  • Luangan Lalak Forest Recreation Park
  • Andulau Forest Reserve trail behind the Tropical Biodiversity Centre building

The flag-off for the Brunei Bird Race 2019 is scheduled to be held at Tropical Biodiversity Centre (TBC), Kg Bukit Puan, on Saturday, 5 September 2019, at 3:00 pm.

The race is expected to finish around 10:30 am the next day on Sunday, 6 September 2019, and the prize-giving ceremony is also scheduled at the same venue later in the afternoon.

Fantastic prizes related to the birdwatching activity are up for grabs to the bird watcher with the highest number of bird species spotted and photographed within the competition area and time given.

Other prizes include a nature outing at Mukim Labi over the weekend sponsored by Brunei’s tourism industry players.

Accommodation options are available from bed and breakfasts (B&B), Longhouse homestays, and hotels in Belait and nearby Tutong District.

You are also encouraged to register early to confirm your spot and make arrangements for flights and accommodations for those outside of Brunei.

And for those living across the borders in Sabah and Sarawak, you can also participate by contacting the organizers. This also includes birders from Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand.
